Santa Vittoria in Matenano
Santa Vittoria in Matenano is a municipality with almost 1,400 inhabitants in the province of Fermo. It is located about 24 km southwest of the provincial capital, bordering the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Macerata.
In the 9th century the town was founded by the friars of the Farfenser. The name of the town comes from the martyr Santa Vittoria, whose relics were transferred from Rome around 930 n. Chr.. In the upper part of the town in the Sanctuary della Collegiata there are the relics of the saints. Additional points of interest in the historic center of Santa Vittoria in Matenano are the Tower of Abate Oderisio (13th cent.) and numerous houses and churches from the period between the 13th and 17th century, the Palazzo Melis and the church San Agostino are particularly highlighted.
