Marina di Altidona (AP)

- Marina di Altidona
Altidona is situated on a chain of hills and dominates the entry into the Aso Valley. The newer part of town lies close to the sea and has a 3km pebble beach with some small offers for tourist amenities in the summer season.
Altidona's historic origins date back to a Roman settlement near Villa Montana from the days of the Punic Wars.
During the first years of the 19th century an Aesculap statue of Greek origin was discovered in the town. In the 11th century Altidona belonged to tthe Abbey of Montecassino, later to the Abbey of Farfa. THe town history is closely related to the history of the city of Fermo.
In the 15th century there were many defensive castles in the area and the whole history of Montalto is full of fighting and revolutionary power (in 1860 there was a 90% vote for the annexion to the Italian empire!).
